Subject [Frogans technology - Frogans-awards] Frogans Tip for Day -4
To frogans-awards@lists.frogans.org
Date Sun, 05 Jun 2016 21:27:51 UTC

In the spirit of the Frogans Awards, I'm submiting, here and on the
Frogans Awards Mailing List, a Frogans authoring tip each day through
June 6th, the day before the submission deadline.
So, with just three days left to submit your Fro-creation...
Frogans Tip for Day -3
Group smaller, frequently-used images in a single image file
It is often quicker for Frogans Player to load one larger file than
several smaller ones. This is because each time Frogans Player has to
look for a new image file, it has to make a new HTTP request to the
hosting server - and that takes a bit of time.
Say you have a set of symbols that are frequently-used throughout your
site. You could put them all in a single image file and write a
separate <resimage> element for each symbol in the file. Using the
"selection" and "bounds" attributes you can choose which region of the
overall file will comprise the resource.
The image file can stay in memory even after the user has navigated to
a new slide. So if the same images are used again in the new slide,
Frogans Player can access them from the image file in memory instead of
making a new HTTP request.

Check back here tomorrow for the Frogans Tip for Day -2!
